Task Forces

LEAD helps to form issue-oriented task forces, such as the one done in 2004 with the EITC (Earned Income Tax Credit) in San Diego. In an effort to expand public awareness of the program, analyze policy issues related to expanding participation in the tax credit, and identify and share best practices in assisting low-income families to participate in this tool for reducing poverty, LEAD helped to assemble a diverse cross-section of financial institutions, utilities, other private sector firms and other civic institutions to participate in the task force. The work of the task force culminated in the fall of 2004 with the release of a major report on the EITC in San Diego.

In an effort to broaden awareness of EITC and its impacts on the San Diego economy, the task force activities and the final report:

1. Assessed current efforts underway or executed in 2004.
2. Assessed best practices in other markets outside San Diego.
3. Proposed recommendations for EITC expansion in San Diego County in 2005.

The Task Force was led by Gordon Boerner, Sr. Vice President of San Diego National Bank.

LEAD San Diego is a civic leadership program that provides leadership skill-building and volunteer opportunities to leaders in the San Diego region. LEAD convenes issue-oriented task forces on critical regional issues on either short-term or ongoing basis. Task Force work includes study and analysis, thought, and input on region-wide and community-focused issues as necessary.
