The Core Curriculum is a series of nine issues-oriented seminars held from September to May for one full day each month. Described as a "Master's Degree" on San Diego, it provides a big picture of the major issues facing the San Diego region. These seminars are created by the LEAD staff and a committee of LEAD graduates, with the aid and expertise of area decision-makers. Approximately 50 class members are selected to participate each year.
In addition to the seminars, smaller action teams are organized as part of the Leadership Project. The Leadership Project provides assistance to area nonprofit organization as well as enhances each participant's leadership, teambuilding and collaborative skills. These projects also provide an opportunity for the class to leave a tangible contribution to the region. The motto of the Leadership Project is: "Learn, Experience and Leave a Footprint!"
Projects are selected each year based on their correlation to the curriculum guidelines, including the ability to complete the project in five months, as well as be successfully integrated into the overall curriculum strategy. The results of these efforts will be reported to an audience of LEAD graduates, community stakeholders, agency partners and the general public at the conclusion of the seminar series.
