EventsDenver District Attorney Visits San DiegoThe Honorable Mitch Morrissey, District Attorney of Denver, Colorado, joined LEAD San Diego and the City Club of San Diego in mid-April for a riveting conversation regarding using DNA in solving current and cold case crimes. Morrissey, who was elected District Attorney of Denver in November 2004 and was sworn into office in early January 2005, is responsible for the prosecution of more than 6,000 felony and 15,000 misdemeanor criminal cases every year. Nationally known for his expertise in DNA technology, Morrissey has been highly successful in applying this advanced technology in criminal prosecutions. Using this approach to prosecution and ensuring that DNA technology is admissible in our courtrooms, Denver has seen a 24% drop in the city's burglaries. After a cold case program was started in Denver, 4200 cases were investigated, a quarter of which contained biological evidence that would later be tested. LEAD San Diego |
