Herbert G. Klein Award Shines A Spotlight On Next Generation Leader

Dunning Named Winner At Visionary Awards

Selected for community leadership and volunteerism

March 26, 2008 (San Diego) - March 26- Each generation has outstanding individuals who make a true mark on their community. Herb Klein, the distinguished retired vice president and editor-in-chief of the Copley Newspapers, is someone whose impact and contribution to the San Diego community is almost unparalleled.

At last night's Visionary Awards, LEAD San Diego bridged the past and future by presenting Hal Dunning, COO/CFO, Barney & Barney with the 2008 Herbert G. Klein Visionary Award. The award was inaugurated last year to honor a future leader. It is awarded to member of the current year's LEAD San Diego Core Curriculum class who, in emulation of the man this award honors, has contributed to our community through diversity of service, leadership and commitment to our region. Recognizing current visionary leaders and developing the next generation of civic leaders are key components to the mission of LEAD San Diego.

Nominations were made by members of the current LEAD class and a committee of recent graduates determined the top five candidates. The five finalists sat at a VIP table at The Visionary Awards, courtesy of San Diego National Bank, where the winner was presented along with Visionary Awards in eight other categories.

"We were privileged to inaugurate this award last year," explained Kristy Gregg, LEAD San Diego Board Chair and Vice President, Marketing, San Diego National Bank. "It provides a unique opportunity to recognize a future civic leader while honoring an individual who has contributed so much to our past."

Award-winner Hal Dunning, a resident of Torrey Hills, has a proven track record of impacting growth and funding in both his professional and community service ventures. "I have a desire to make a positive impact on the world and those around me," he wrote in his class bio.

In addition to service as Chief Operating Officer, Chief Financial Officer and a Principal for Barney and Barney, he has been the Chair of The CFO Roundtable; is also one of the founding members and the Board Chair of Day for Change, a grass roots non-profit organization made up of financial executives that supports abused and neglected children and has been the Board Chair of Walden Family Services. He also has found time to volunteer weekly at Scripps Memorial Hospital for over 13 years.

The 2008 Visionary Awards is sponsored by Title Sponsor Sempra Energy, along with Anchor Sponsor San Diego National Bank and Reception Sponsor Union Bank of California, in partnership with AT&T, Bank of America, QUALCOMM, Wells Fargo Bank and 10News/Azteca America San Diego 15.
